BA and Unite Talks Continue…

by Gavin.Male on September 1, 2010

It would appear the BA / Unite saga is set to continue with more talks planned with British Airways next week. Unite have confirmed that talks have been planned however there is no specific day set for next week as yet.

There are rumours that Unite is planning more strike misery over the Christmas holidays and half term periods, however a Unite spokesman denied these reports.  He claimed that to date there are no future strikes planned whilst outstanding issues are still waiting to be resolved.

The dispute has now been ongoing since November 2009 when British Airways reduced staff numbers and made cuts to salaries. Tensions between BA and Unite have since gone from bad to worse after BA removed travel concessions for staff members taking part in strikes, and more recently BA have  taken disciplinary action against certain members of staff after complaints of intimidation and bullying had apparently been made.

Several flights and cruise ships have had to be cancelled or diverted due to Hurricane Earl which is currently causing havoc across the Caribbean.

Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruises have all be affected by the storm and have re-routed destinations to avoid the Hurricane. The storm is currently headed for the Caicos and Turks Islands which forecasters predict will be hit by the storm later today. It is also feared the hurricane may hit America later in the week with states such as North Carolina up to Main being told to keep an eye on the storms progress. Forecasters are also warning New York, Philadelphia and Washington that they may be awash with heavy rain come Thursday and Friday.

The Hurricane has grown in strength and is currently a category 4 leaving power cuts and heavy rain fall in its wake. So far there has been no serious damage caused but it is too early to assess the damage that has and may be caused. Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands have now seen the worst of the storm. Forecasters have confirmed that Hurricane Earl is a major storm and could cause serious damage if it hits land.
